How to Make Quick Rent Money

Here are legit ways you can earn some emergency cash to pay your rent before you get evicted.

1. Sell stuff you own

One of the fastest and most simple ways to get some extra cash is to simply sell the stuff you own. This can free up some money that you can use to pay your rent.

Most of us have things in our homes that we no longer use and could instead sell.

  • Furniture
  • Clothing
  • Books
  • Sports equipment

2. Find rental assistance

If you need help with housing costs, then try programs that provide rental assistance.

You may even be able to get money for rent from the government!

There are organizations that distribute money to help renters who are struggling to keep up with rent and other bills.

When you are looking for help paying your rent, state, tribal, and local organizations are the best place to start.

There are a few ways to get assistance:

  • You can search the internet for rental assistance in your town or city, your county, and your state or tribal nation.
  • You can ask at local government offices like your town hall, city council, or representative’s office.
  • Visit organizations like your local library or cultural center.

211 is another good option. 211 can help you to find available resources if you need help finding ways to pay your rent. Simply call 211 from your phone.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) provides lots of information on where you can find assistance.

So, for more ways to get rental assistance be sure to check out the CFPB website.

3. Do odd jobs

A good way to get money for rent right now is to do odd jobs. People always need work done around the house and often they don’t have the time or just can’t be bothered to do it themselves.

So, they hire someone to do these jobs for them. This is where you can come in and make some cash.

You could offer to do odd jobs for people in your area.

Here are some examples of odd jobs that you can get paid for:

  • Painting
  • Grass cutting
  • Furniture assembly
  • Junk removal
  • Yard work
  • Landscaping
  • Window cleaning

Here are a few ways to find odd jobs:

Ask people

Simply ask people in your area whether they have any jobs they need completing. This is a good way to get cash fast.

Look on Craigslist

I would recommend looking on Craigslist to find local gigs. You can find same day pay jobs on there. Simply go to Craigslist, and then select your town or city under the name of the state where you live.

Then, once you’ve gotten to your city’s Craigslist page, you’ll need to find the “gigs” section. Usually, this is located near the bottom of the page. Just scroll down until you find a section that says “gigs” above it.

Click on “gigs,” and you’ll be able to view all gigs, or you can click on one of the subcategories beneath this to find more specific gigs.

Aside from the gigs section, another place to find work is in the “jobs” section.

Check out my Craigslist gigs post to learn more about finding work on the platform.

Find work on TaskRabbit

You can make money running errands for people on TaskRabbit. You help people with their errands and to-dos. You can get paid for things like helping people to move, making deliveries, furniture assembly, and yard work.

Workers on there are called Taskers. As a Tasker, you’re paid by direct deposit to your checking account. Payments are usually approved within 24 hours of you finishing a task. It can take three to five days though for the money to appear in your bank account.

TaskRabbit is not as quick for getting cash for doing odd jobs as asking people or finding gigs on Craigslist, but it’s still a worthwhile option.

4. Borrow money from your church

Local churches can sometimes provide assistance to those who are struggling to pay their rent. So, contact local churches to see if they’d be able to help you out.

5. Work as a Rideshare driver

Working as a rideshare driver is a way to make a little extra money fast. You can put the money you make towards your rent. If you have some free time or can fit this gig in around your regular job, then this could be a good option for you.

There are a few places where you can find work as a rideshare driver.

Lyft

Lyft pays you to give people, well, lifts! Although the company usually pays weekly, it offers instant payments too through its Express Pay Feature.

With the Express Pay feature, you can cash out your money instantly. The money will usually appear in your bank within just a few hours, although it could take a few days depending on your bank’s processing time.

The Express Pay feature isn’t free. You’ll need to pay a $0.50 transfer fee.

Uber

Uber is a rideshare company. You can work with the company and get paid to give people lifts. What’s good about Uber is that you can pick up work when you want to.

Uber has an Instant Pay feature that allows you to cash out your earnings up to six times a day. So, when you need money for rent fast, this is a good option. The Instant Pay feature is not free costing $0.85 per cash-out.

6. Borrow money from friends or family

If you’re really struggling with money and can’t afford your rent, a good option can be to ask a family member or friend whether they can help you out. They may be willing to loan you the money. Friends and family tend to offer more lenient repayment terms than a traditional lender, making this a worthwhile choice.

Of course, money can be a sensitive subject, so this option won’t work for everyone.

If you’re close with your family and friends though, then consider asking them to loan you money for rent. Just be honest and open about your financial situation and discuss a repayment plan.

7. Deliver food

Another way to bring in money quickly is to deliver food. This gig is a great alternative to being a rideshare driver since you don’t need to have strangers in your car! That’s just not for everyone!

Simply pick up food from local restaurants and other eating establishments, and then deliver it to people’s homes. You can use the cash that you make to pay your rent.

Here are some places where you can find food delivery work:

DoorDash

You can work with DoorDash as a Dasher and get paid to deliver food from restaurants and fast-food places to people’s homes.

What’s great about DoorDash is that you can set your own hours. And, get paid fast!

The company not only offers weekly direct deposit but also Fast Pay. With Fast Pay, you can cash out your earnings daily, rather than having to wait for your weekly direct deposit.

Fast Pay isn’t free. There’s a fee of $1.99.

UberEats

UberEats is an app that people can use to get food from restaurants and other eateries delivered to their homes.

You can get your earnings sent to your bank every week or use the Instant Pay feature to cash out your earnings up to 6 times a day. This feature isn’t free. It costs $0.85 per cash-out.

GrubHub

With GrubHub, you can get paid to deliver food from restaurants to customer’s homes. The company has an Instant Cashout feature that you can use to cash out your available earnings directly to your bank account so that you can get paid faster.

With the Instant Cashout feature, the money will normally appear in your account within moments, but it can take up to 3 business days depending on your bank.

All delivery payments and tips are available 15 minutes after the delivery is completed. The Instant Cashout feature isn’t free. There’s a flat fee of $0.50 for each Instant Cashout transaction.

8. Talk to your landlord

This option is a simple one and it’s to just talk to your landlord. Explain your situation and see if your landlord would be willing to either extend your due date or accept partial payments in installments.

Landlords often do not want the hassle of chasing down money or finding a new tenant, so they may be willing to work with you on getting the rent paid.

9. Get work through temporary work agencies

Another option that you could try is temporary work agencies. Sure, working as a rideshare driver, doing odd jobs, or delivering food is great. But, if you don’t want to hunt down gigs yourself, then a temporary work agency is a worthwhile option.

A temporary work agency, also called a temp agency, can find work for you.

These agencies work with a variety of companies and find you paid positions with these companies for a set period of time. There are lots of different types of jobs available.

Some examples of temporary work agencies include:

10. Deliver groceries

If you need money for rent fast, then try delivering groceries. All you need is a car to get started. You can pick up work when you need to and earn some much-needed extra cash.

You can put this money toward rent.

Here are some places where you can find work delivering groceries:

Instacart

Instacart is a grocery delivery company. It pays you to shop for and deliver groceries. What’s great about Instacart is that you don’t actually need a car to make money with it. This is because the company offers two roles, which include:

  • Full-Service Shopper: With this role, you shop for the groceries in-store. Then, you deliver the order to the customer’s home.
  • In-Store Shopper: For this role, you shop for the order and stage it for pick-up. This job doesn’t require you to have a car since you don’t need to deliver the groceries.

Instacart pays weekly, but it also has the option to cash out daily with Instant Cashout. You do have to pay a fee though. The Instant Cashout feature is great if you need money now.

Shipt

Shipt will pay you to shop for and deliver groceries.

What’s great about working with Shipt is that you can work full-time or part-time and set your own hours.

Payment is sent by direct deposit each Friday. Or you can access your payment once per day using the company’s Instant Pay feature. This means that you can get cash fast for rent.
